Seriously

Ok, so I don't know if Austin or I has broken a mirror or walked under a ladder lately but our luck has been just crazy!  After the fire last week I thought we were all good for the rest of the year, that the fire was the last of the string of bad luck, but NOOO!!  Saturday we went to a friends wedding and came home around 10 and pretty much went right to bed because we're lame.  Austin woke me up at 3am saying his back hurt.  Uh oh...  I gave him some Tylenol and he went to the other room so I could go back to sleep.  I couldn't sleep because I was worried since he woke me up to tell me about a back ache and for him to wake me up he must have really been hurting.  When I got in the other room he was on the floor leaning against the bed saying the thought he might have a KIDNEY STONE!  No lie.  My first reaction was actually to laugh in shock and say "NO WAY, this CAN NOT be happening!"  He laughed/winced in pain and I said "ok, we're going to the emergency room NOW!"  He wanted to wait to see if it got any better.  By 3:45 he couldn't take it anymore and we headed to the ER.  By that point he couldn't even sit up or get comfortable at all (I am all too familiar with this situation and felt so bad for him, especially knowing that it was only going to get worse if he didn't get pain meds ASAP).  He got checked in and the Dr immediately said it was kidney stones and got him hooked up to an IV and he got the good drugs.  He was happy.  So happy that he kept going on and on to the nurse about how awesome the drugs were.  As soon as the nurse walked out I told him to quit talking about it because they were going to take the drugs away from him!  Ha!  Anyways, after a CT Scan they couldn't find a stone so he either passed it after he got the drugs or he had a back problem which made no sense to me.  We finally got home around 8am with some pain meds and he slept all day and was just sore from the back spasms.  On Monday we went to his regular Dr and he said he must have passed the stones before the CT Scan because everything pointed in that direction.  I just can't believe in less than 4 months we BOTH got kidney stones!!
So, please pray that we are out of the woods with all this crazy bad luck!
Oh, and Austin wants me to point out to anyone who asks that he hasn't been to the Dr since 2009 and it was a few years before then that he had gone as well.  Seriously, between the two of us we've seen the ER more times in the past year or two than we've ever seen since sports injuries when we were kids!

17 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: 17 Weeks
Size of baby: Baby T is about the size of an onion
Total Weight Gain: 3 lbs
Maternity Clothes: Not yet but I am rocking the Bella Band with everything now. No more buttoning pants.
Gender: We find out in less than a week! I can't wait!!  Since this is the last update before we find out I'm going on record saying I think it's a boy!  I have no idea why, I've just thought that since the beginning.
Movement: He/she is moving all around in there as we've seen a few times but I'm not feeling any of it just yet.
Sleep: I love sleep. :) I've been sleeping pretty good this week.
What I miss: Iced tea
Cravings: Sweets
Symptoms: I feel pretty good! Just tired a lot.  I also have noticed it's harder to move around as quickly as before (not walking and that kind of stuff, just moving at the waist I guess).  I guess I kind of hop into bed (it's a tall bed and I'm pretty short) which I never realized before until now, I did that the other night and it hurt. :(  When rolling over I have to be a little more gentle too.  And getting out of bed.  The books say it's my ligaments tightening and pulling.  They sure feel tight!  Oh, and the crazy dreams have started up again.  One woke me up at 4:30 this morning and I don't want to relive it.
Best Moment this week: This morning I woke up and I had been laying on my left side.  I rolled onto my back and just felt my belly and it was SOOO hard on the left side and sticking out a little more than the right side, like a little ball.  I guess Baby T was laying on my left side too (yes, I am aware of the concept of gravity, you just don't think about your baby moving like that just yet)!  Austin walked in and I made him feel it, he thought it was pretty cool.  :)  It was so crazy that I could actually feel where the baby was instead of just everything being hard.

I realized yesterday that in three weeks I'll be halfway through the pregnancy!!  WOW!

Fire!

Ok, you know how no one wants to lead a boring life and you want a little excitement every now and then?  Yeah, well, I think I'm over that.  Bring on boring for a little while!!  After my IVF, kidney stones, Brody's herniated disk and Austin's mysterious rash (that the Drs thought was Scarlet Fever at first!  Who gets that?!) I think we're ready for some NORMAL!  Yesterday at work some coworkers and I were talking about various snacks and fried pickles were brought up.  So, of course I just HAD to have them!  It's all I talked about the rest of the afternoon actually.  So, I went to the store and bought pickles and went home to get my snack on.  I even texted Austin to let him know we'd be having fried pickles with our dinner because I was so excited about it.  Let's just say we didn't end up eating fried pickles last night....
I decided to catch our house on fire instead.  Oops!
Here's what happened, I heated a cast iron skillet with some vegetable oil and let it get good and hot for the beloved pickles.  I did the "heat test" thing where you flick a few drops of water onto the oil to make sure it sizzled and was hot enough (the recipe told me to do it!).  Well, it really sizzled and scared me (I'm not used to frying stuff) so I decided that I was going to wait until Austin got home so he could put the pickles in the oil.  I turned the burner off and apparently made the biggest mistake of all...I put the cast iron lid onto the pan thinking it would just stay warm until Austin got home a few minutes later.  WRONG!!!  About 10 minutes later I heard a noise and I turned around just in time to see FLAMES bursting out from under the lid!  Like, foot tall flames!  All the way up to my cabinets and microwave!  I PANICKED!!!  But I immediately got to action (all the while screaming like a psycho path was chasing me.  Seriously, it was probably pretty comical if it hadn't been so scary and involving fire).  Earlier I had gotten out one of Austin's big heat gloves that he uses when he smokes meat thinking that would be smart to wear when putting the pickles in the oil, so I put it on and grabbed the HEAVY pan to run it outside.  Yeah, didn't happen.  The flames were OUT OF CONTROL and I was afraid I was going to burn my arms and face so I literally threw the whole thing in the sink and (while still screaming) called 911.  Then I spotted the fire extinguisher and hung up on them (oops) and threw the phone across the kitchen and went to town with that fire extinguisher.  I got the fire out and then it CAME BACK!!!  So I screamed some more and drained the rest of that extinguisher until there was nothing left in it and all was good.  Oh, and just let me mention that my back door was open this entire time and I've decided we have the WORST neighbors EVER because not ONE person came to check on me!  And I know they had to have heard!  I mean, when I say I was screaming I'm not kidding or exaggerating.  I.  WAS.  LOUD!  Both of our neighbors on each side had kids playing in the back yard.  Whatever.  Grrrr.

So, fire was out.  Crisis was over.  I was still screaming.  But a little more calmly now.  And every single fire detector in our house was going off.  I had no idea we had that many detectors by the way.  There are a LOT.  And they are LOUD.

This was the view on my way out of the house that I sent Austin from my phone (who by the way was still at work!  He said he was coming home but he still hadn't left yet).  I kept running from the backyard into the house opening windows a room at a time trying to get some of that smoke out.  And when I would open a window and go back outside you could just see the smoke pouring out of the window.  Nice.

The aftermath.  Notice the fire extinguisher clip, super heat resistant glove, grease and fire extinguisher residue everywhere.

The culprit.  This pot and I will never be friends.

The pickles that were never fried.  I still want some by the way.  I'll have to go to a restaurant next time.

The Valentine's Day flowers that were so pretty just the day before.  Now covered in soot.

The thick layer of soot/extinguisher residue on the floor

More residue.  And the hand soap that was melted shut.

Grease splatter and residue

The only things that actually ended up ruined after this scary fiasco.  I cleaned off the left stool and you can see how much soot/residue was on the other one still.

Grease splatter that isn't going anywhere.  :(  Luckily we know how to recover chairs so it's not too big of a deal to replace.  It still makes me sad though.

Oh, by the way, I kept wondering why the fire department or police never showed up after I called 911 and hung up.  Well, they did....45 minutes later!!!  Are you kidding me?!?!  They said they had a 911 call and tried to call back but no one answered.  You'd think they would make a little more effort than that to check on the situation!  So, now my neighbors and the police/fire department are on my list...and not the good list you'd want to be on.

So, that was my eventful Wednesday night that took Austin and I over 2 hours to clean up.  Thank GOD I wasn't hurt and I didn't burn our house down!  Everyone, make sure you have a fire extinguisher somewhere in your kitchen!!!  Otherwise, it probably would have taken the fire dept about 5 minutes to get there (had I not hung up on them...) and there would have been MUCH more damage to our house!

Here's to an uneventful Thursday!!  :)

Valentine's Day

Sooo, our Valentine's Day didn't go exactly as planned.  Austin came home on Sunday from being gone over the weekend with stuff to make steaks, twice baked potatoes, salad and sauteed mushrooms.  And pretty flowers. :)  I made a peanut butter pie, it was so yummy!  Then before we started dinner he started to feel sick.  Really sick!  Over 103 degree temperature kind of sick.  So, instead of enjoying Valentine's Day we went to the ER Monday night because he was HOT and RED and left there and went to the doctor Tuesday morning.  :(  Turns out Austin had the flu and then had an allergic reaction to his medicine.  The poor guy's skin is about as red as these roses he gave me!  Seriously, he looks severely sunburned.  But, he's off the meds and feeling a little better each day.  I told him that Valentine's Day 2011 will always be known as the day we went to the hospital for his mysterious body rash.  Ha!  Seriously, you should have seen the looks on people's faces when they saw it, I thought he was going to be quarantined!  Luckily you don't get quarantined for allergic reactions.  I would post pictures here of what it looked like but you just can't put pics of a rash and food in the same post.  That's just wrong.  ;)

We enjoyed our Valentine's Day meal Tuesday night, it was so good!

The peanut butter pie I made on Sunday.  This picture was from Sunday, not from when we got around to our nice dinner.  I couldn't stay away from it for that long!

I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day!

Movement: He/she is moving all around in there as we've seen a few times but I'm not feeling any of it just yet.

14 Weeks

I need to remember to wear darker shirts against the door so you can see the bump easier.  Next week!

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: 14 Weeks
Size of baby: Baby T is about the size of a lemon
Total Weight Gain/Loss: No weight gain so far.  I had my 14 week appointment (and 1st appt with the OB) yesterday and apparently I'm behind in this area.  She said something that I've never been told before and most likely will never be told again.  She said "You need to eat more.  Gain weight.  You need about 4-5 lbs right about now."  Well...if you INSIST!  ;)  I feel like I'm eating all. the. time. so I don't really know what else to do but I can assure you, the weight will be there in the long run.  No worries.  Baby T is the right size and gaining weight right on track so everything is going great.
Maternity Clothes: None yet but I am rocking the Bella Band with my jeans because I can't button them anymore. My work pants are getting tighter too but I can still button them.  I ordered a few basic things last week online and got them in this week so that was exciting.
Gender: Won't know for a few more weeks.  Lil One was snoozing away at our appointment yesterday so we didn't get a good shot.  :(  One thing I know so far is that he/she loves sleeping!  Just like it's Mama!
Movement: He/she is moving all around in there as we've seen a few times but I'm not feeling any of it just yet.
Sleep: Right now sleep and I have a love/hate relationship.  I LOVE it and it HATES me!  :(  I feel like my body is fighting it for some reason.  I fall asleep really easily and sleep pretty good until something wakes me up (usually Austin) and then I can't fall back asleep.  Yesterday morning Austin's alarm went off at 5am and I never went back to sleep even though I still had an hour and 1/2 to sleep and then last night I was so exhausted from that I was asleep really early and Austin fell asleep on the couch and he woke up and came to bed at 1:30 which woke me up and I didn't go back to sleep until around 4am.  Poor Austin is just going to have to tip toe around our room while I'm sleeping and really try to not fall asleep on the couch!
What I miss: Right now I'm really missing caffeine because I'm pretty tired.  That's about it!
Cravings: Sweets
Symptoms: I started having daily afternoon/evening headaches but it's nothing too bad.  I feel pretty good!
Best Moment this week: Getting to see Baby T again!  He/she is getting so big!!  Even though it was enjoying a little siesta it moved it's arm around and Austin said "It's arm is SO long!"  He said we're going to have a basketball player.  I let him know that it's little arm isn't that long, it's legs just aren't as long as it's arms yet so it looks really long.
Most embarrassing/funny moment this week:  So, I added this category for this week because I made myself look like an idiot at the dr office yesterday.  The Dr walked in and introduced herself and said "How's your baby?" and my immediate response was "I don't have a baby".  Crickets chirping....  She looked at me like I was a one eyed creature then looked down at my chart in confusion probably wondering why I was there and then a light went off in my head "Oh!  THAT baby!  Yes, I'm having a baby, I thought you were asking me about a baby I already have!"  Nice first impression Kelly.  Good going.  I really thought she had me confused with someone who just had a baby!  I guess it was just the way she asked it that confused me.  In my defense, when we were walking out Austin said that she confused him too with the question.  I promise I'm a smart person.  Usually....

Here he/she is!  Getting so big in there!
